Second Downtown Forum: Wednesday, December 6th, 2017 - 7:00 pm - Pole Room, Bangs Center
On Wednesday evening, December 6, 2017, the Amherst Select Board, Planning Board, and Town Manager hosted a second community forum to discuss Downtown Amherst. Held in the Bangs Community Center, the forum was a success, with dozens of townspeople passionately discussing their vision for the downtown.
First, Planning Director Christine Brestrup gave a review and report of the feedback received during Forum #1. Next, she presented a slideshow comparing and contrasting different downtown streetscapes in towns and cities similar to Amherst, and people shared their preferences and opinions of the streetscapes shown.
Next, townspeople broke up into small groups and discussed what kinds of activities they would like to see in the downtown at different times of day; comments were shared with the group as a whole.
For those who were not able to attend the forum, we have posted the activities and maps to enable people to see and hear what was said and to send in their comments. The comment period has now closed; see the links below to view the online submissions we received.
