POLICE OFFICER EXAMINATION TO BE HELD
January 26th, 2008, 9:00 AM

Chief of Police Charles L. Scherpa announces that the Amherst Police Department will be having an entry level police officer examination to establish an eligibility list for the hiring of police officers.  The Amherst Police Department, a non-civil service agency, is anticipating having vacancies for the position of police officer that will need to be filled within the near future.  The recruitment process is as follows:

1.   Written Examination:  Saturday January 26th, 2008 at 9:00AM to be held at the Amherst Pelham Regional Middle School, 170 Chestnut St., Amherst, MA.   The test starts at 9:00 AM, doors open at 8:00 AM.  Those traveling distances are encourage to plan ahead. 
2.   Physical Abilities Test: February 26th and/or February 27th, 2008
3.   Citizens/Staff Oral Interview:  March 3rd and/or March 4th, 2008
4.   Police Chief/Town Manager Interview:  March, 2008
5.   Offer of employment contingent upon passing the following:
   -Background investigation
   -Psychological Examination
   -Acceptance into Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Recruit Academy
   -Physical Examination based on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Human Resource
    Division police protocol

Each phase is pass/fail.  Candidates must successfully complete one phase in order to move onto the next phase of the process.  Inability to attend any phase will result in the applicant being withdrawn from consideration.  Phases will not be rescheduled.  All candidates will be notified in writing of their pass/fail status after each phase of the hiring process.

In order to be eligible to participate in the written examination, applications and the application fee must be either received in the Amherst Police Department Records Office, 111 Main Street, Amherst, MA  01002 by Monday January 14th, 2008.
