Are you thinking of raising livestock or poultry on your single-family residential property? Amherst by-laws require some property owners to submit an application with the Amherst Health Department which registers your property, and explains your intentions for keeping the livestock and/or poultry, as well as confirms the number of animals you are planning for.

Your application and a $10.00 registration fee should be submitted to the Amherst Health Department, 70 Boltwood Walk Amherst MA 01002. Applications will be reviewed by the Health Department, and then an inspection of the premise by the Animal Welfare Officer will be required before your permit can be issued.
