Taxi Cabs Visitors and residents alike can hail a cab in the Town of Amherst with assurance that all taxis have met specific requisites, as set forth in our Taxi Regulations, effective January 1, 2013. Each vehicle bears a bright yellow Town of Amherst Taxi Inspection Sticker indicating that the taxi has passed the Police Department’s inspection and is in compliance with safety requirements.
The Town Inspection Services Department also inspects and certifies each vehicle’s meter to ensure fares are calculated appropriately, based on distance traveled; rates are set by the taxi company, not the Town.
Each driver should also have his or her Town of Amherst license bearing their photograph in plain view.
Report any problems to the Amherst Police Department at 413-259-3000.
